expression & innovation

Beth Thompson

I am an interdisciplinary artist passionate about blending painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography to explore personal and collective narratives. I am currently pursuing a Master of Visual Arts, having previously completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) and a Bachelor of Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art at the Queensland College of Art and Design.

I am dedicated to amplifying marginalised voices and shining a light on stories that often go unnoticed. My work examines themes of gender, sexuality, and my personal journey as a neurodivergent queer person, exploring how these aspects intersect with broader cultural narratives to shape my identity and creative expression. My practice is deeply connected to my diverse heritage as a Wulli Wulli person with Celtic, Germanic, and Nordic ancestry.

Drawing on my ancestral histories, my art explores the important links between culture and identity. Through my creations, I hope to foster reflection, promote inclusivity, and deepen understanding of the intricate layers that influence both personal identities and our collective sense of belonging.

I believe that art has the incredible power to nurture compassion and spark meaningful conversations, helping to build a more connected and empathetic world. By sharing these stories, I hope to engage in dialogues that celebrate the beauty and complexity of the human experience.

My artistic practice is a passionate and ongoing exploration of identity that delves into multifaceted intersections of culture, sexuality, and mental health.

I acknowledge the Yuggera, Jagera and Turbal people as the Traditional Custodians of the land which I live and study. I pay my respects to the Elders past and present.

Sovereignty was never ceded.
This always was and always will be Aboriginal Land.
